PRATT & WHITNEY Deep Hole Reamer is designed primarily for reaming rifle barrels. It also will handle efficiently any other type of deep hole reaming work within its range. It incorporates numerous features which make it much more efficient, and is designed to meet modern production requirements. In operation, the work is held in a fixture on the work carriage, this whole unit being fed toward or away from the rotating reamer. Best results are obtained usually by feeding away from a pull type reamer. The smooth pull of the hydraulic feed, and the even power from the V-belt driven ball bearing spindle, result in holes that meet the most exacting requirements of size and finish. The hydraulic feed, infinitely variable from 2" to 10" per minute, permits the operator to vary the feed until the most satisfactory operating conditions are established. The rapid traverse return at 30' per minute, and the quick-acting fixtures for loading and unloading the work, result in a minimum amount of unproductive time and hence a high output. The two reaming units are entirely separate, each having its individual spindle motor, hydraulic feed motor, and coolant pump. This enables the operator to be reloading or checking work at one spindle while the other is in production.
The Pratt & Whitney No. 1/2B x 50 is a deep-hole gun drilling machine with a maximum hole diameter capacity of 0.75 inches and a maximum drilling depth of 50 inches.
